Long-term care assistance is expensive. From home health care to assisted living facilities to skilled nursing homes, the cost is well above what most families can afford in their monthly budget. The reality in Southern Illinois and across America is that the cost of long-term care continues to rise. According to the recent Genworth Costs of Long-Term Care Survey, the cost of a semi-private room in a nursing home is over $7,000 per month and the cost of an assisted living facility is over $4,500 per month.

This unfortunate reality means that without proper planning and advice, paying for the high costs of long-term care can easily wipe out a senior’s lifetime of savings. Currently, there are public benefits programs that exist in Southern Illinois that can help a senior pay for this type of care. The Medicaid program exists to help defray some of the costs of care each month.

These are qualifications programs. The earliest you can plan for a potential need for long-term care, the more options you will have available.
